Scouts in Action Month 2024

This is the final year of the development of programs and activities themed for Scouts in Action Month so as many would know I hate reinventing the wheel so here are my favorites from previous years that I have selected for you to choose from and run for your Section this year.

I hope you continue to visit this website and continue to use the resources developed for you.

2010 First Aid.

This was the very first year of Scouts in Action and was held on the last week of April 2010 and over 33,000 Scouts and Leaders participated in the programs specifically designed for each section of Scouting.

The Blood and Wounds program was a favorite.  Click the link here to download the program - Blood & Wounds

2011 Disability Awareness

On the back of the very successful first year of Scouts in Action, I felt it was time to think about those that are not as 'able' as us so we explored all sorts of disabilities from the obvious ones you can see to the ones you cannot see like allergies or behaviors.

This Scout program explored what happens when you take away one or more of the senses.

2012 International Scouting

Year three looked at what Scouting and living in another country is like.  Scouts explored what typical games and activities are like from countries like New Zealand, UK, Africa, Japan and more.  Lots of learning about food, dress, religion and other cultures from overseas.

The 'Around the World in 80 Minutes' was a program full of fun and laughter - Click here to download that program from 2012 - Around the World in 80 Minutes

2013 Scouting in the Community

Scout Groups were encouraged to connect with other community Groups with the intent to share with them the 'Scouting Experience' or to complete a project together. We learned about Foodbank and donated food to support the great service they provide to the commuity.

At AJ2013 in Maryborough, Queensland, 160 picnic tables were built.  Every Scout that attended AJ2013 were involved in making all those tables and then they were donated to the local community and local campsites.

Here are the plans for those tables - Picnic Table

2014 Breaking the Cycle - Bullying is not a part of Scouting

Scouts in Action was changed to run for a month and was moved to start on the 1st August each year.  The development of Unit Codes, respect and looking after each other were the underlying themes of this year.

The 'toothpaste' activity was a great activity that highlighted that once you do or say something you cannot take it back or even apologize.  Download this and other activities here - Toothpaste Activity

2015 Scouting in the Environment

Scouting is all about exploring and being in the outdoors and we learned how to look after the environment that we live and play in and we also learned about looking after our planet.

The World Scout Environment Programs (WESP) provided a great resource to learn about many aspects of looking after our environment.  The program about 'Life on a River' for older Scouts and Venturer Scouts was a great example of programs available from the World Bureau - Life on a River

2016 100 Years of Cub Scouts

Baden Powell founded Scouting in 1908 for boys 12 years and older. One day when he was inspecting some Scouts at a rally, he noticed some young boys there and when he enquired, they told him they were 'young scouts'.  Upon this BP realized that younger boys should also be part of Scouting.

He then introduced Cub Scouts based on the Rudyard Kipling book 'The Jungle Book' in 1916.

Albany Creek Joeys from Queensland had a great time learning all about Cub Scouts - here are their two programs for you to enjoy.

Albany Creek Program 1 & Albany Creek Program 2

2017 Time to be Creative.

This year was all about getting your creative juices flowing.  Art, music, performing arts, sculpting, reading it did not matter.

The mask program from 2nd Colac in Victoria was just awesome and a lot of fun - 2nd Colac Mask Program

2018 Scientific Scouts in Action

Experiments and figuring out how stuff works was the underlying theme this year and here was just lots of fun to be had with this very broad theme.

Looking at the stars, constellations and planets is a great activity so here is the program about astronomy - Astronomy for Scouts Program

2019 AQUA Scouts in Action

We just love water especially playing in it at the local pool or going to the beach. It could be the local creek or property dam where we need to take extra care - no lifesavers here!

In, on or under the water were all part of this year's theme.

Here is a great water safety program - Water Safety

2020 Flight

How do airplanes stay in the air. Who can fly a paper plane the furthest.  Lets go on a hot air balloon or visit the local Scout Air Activity Centre. Just great fun with this years theme and an awesome plane shaped badge!  What about going to iFly and you can skydive!

Here is a great program about the science of flight - Science of Flight Program

2021 Sustainable Development Goals

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015, provides a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future. At its heart are the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are an urgent call for action by all countries - developed and developing - in a global partnership.

There were so many programs and activities to choose from - SDG 12 Responsible Consumption and Production

2022 The Great Australian Scout Cook Off

If there is one activity, we all love in Scouting and that is Cooking.  At home, at the hall/den or in camp and the outdoors we just love it.  Damper, SMORES, sausage on a stick, meal packets in foil and learning how to make a pizza or pringle oven were all part of this year's fun!

The imagination with programming had no boundaries and there were 'cook off's' all over the place.  MasterChef themed programs were very popular so here is one for you - MasterChef Gourmet Jaffles
